All the best players outside the top 23 in the world arrived at my home base, Millfield School, where the qualification for the Saudi Arabian ATCO Open took place. Well my first Major Tournament of the New Season began well in Paris i managed to beat the world number 20 (Miguel Rodriguez), 3-1. My confidence on the glass court is growing all the time. I then had a very tough 3-0 with the England number 1 and current world number 3 James Willstrop. I was not able to convert a game point in the first which was crucial to the outcome of the match. It was great to finally get into the new season.

Well last week i joined the rest of the England squad for our first Summer training outing at the national sports centre in Lilleshall.
It was great to catch up with the boys, and after nearly 7 months, to see Nick Mathew back hitting the ball again. Hes not far off his peak form. Our first day consisted of mainly fitness testing and on court drills. The fitness testing is very individual and out results are not compared against eachother. Put it this way the best squash players usually do the worst on the Bleep test!
The squads are only a 2 day meeting . The second day was very squash specific, with on court drills (technically based), and then round robin matches in the afternoon. These are always 100% competitive amongst the boys. After this we all go our seperate ways back to our main training bases which are all over the country.
